What to expect:
This is an 8-hour private day tour of Plovdiv with an English-speaking driver. Here you program the details of your itinerary.
The driving time between Sofia and Plovdiv is about 2 hours each way, which means that you will have about 4 full hours to explore Plovdiv or if you choose, some sights near it.
After you arrive, your driver will bring you to the best starting point for sightseeing and give you a map of the city. You may walk the Old Town with an audio guide in English, Spanish and Italian (must be pre-booked from us)
If you don’t mind joining a group, your driver can show you the starting location of the Plovdiv Free Tour. There are free tours in English every day, starting at 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM from May to September and at 2:00 PM from October to April. The tours last about 2-2.5 hrs.
Plovdiv’s Center is very compact and all the sights in it are within walking distance. There are 3 main areas worth special attention:
The Old Town of Plovdiv, where you can admire Roman ruins, such as the Ancien Тheater, and traditional mansions from the Bulgarian Revival period.
The main pedestrian street with beautiful early 20th-century Renaissance buildings. This is the best place for shopping with many shops and small boutiques.
Kapana – this is the art district of Plovdiv, where you can find handmade gifts and souvenirs, cosy restaurants and chic bars. It is a fine place to eat, have a drink and relax. There is a lot of fine graffiti there, worth admiring.
If you would like to visit additional sights of interest close to Plovdiv, such as Bachkovo Monastery and Assen’s Fortress, you know that the driver will be at your service.

- Tips
Good to know before you go on a private day tour to Plovdiv:
- Clothes: The weather in Plovdiv can get very hot during the summer season. We advise you to bring a sun hat, sun lotion and sunglasses.
- Shoes: We advise you to wear comfortable walking shoes as most of the streets in the Old Town of Plovdiv are cobbled.
- Cash is the king: Kindly note that payment by credit/debit cards is not possible everywhere (museums). There are cash machines in many places around Plovdiv, however, for your personal expenses, we recommend bringing leva in cash with you.
- Food: There are many restaurants in Plovdiv, offering both Bulgarian and International cuisine. The most famous place to eat is the Kapana neighbourhood, located near the main pedestrian street. There are also several fast food options. If you wish to spend more of your free time exploring the city then you should consider bringing a lunch pack with you.
